About this ministry: Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist help to distribute the Body and Blood at communion during Masses. They also take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound parishioners.
What training is necessary? Training takes about 1 hour. It includes an explanation of when to come to the altar, which minister does the cup, the hosts, etc., and what to do afterwards.
To whom is this ministry open? Adults 18 and over who are fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, and who have a desire to serve and are devoted to the Eucharist.
What kind of a commitment is required? Outside of the training time, there is a yearly liturgical minister's meeting to attend. Eucharistic ministers distribute at the 4:30, 8:00 or 10:00 Masses. A schedule is mailed to ministers for 3 - 4 month increments. You will be scheduled about once every 4 - 6 weeks.
