As you may know, all adults of our diocese who interact with minor children in our parishes and schools are required to attend “Call to Protect” training. Also included in developing a safe environment for our children is the training of students enrolled in our elementary and middle schools, as well as the students enrolled in the parish religious education programs. We are committed to see that every child receives age-appropriate information to keep them safe from abuse. The personal safety program is just another step in teaching children how to be safe such as looking both ways before you cross the street, fire safety, water safety, etc.
If your child is currently in 1st, 5th, or 8th grade, your child will be presented a classroom training titled “Formation in Christian Chastity” or “Call to Protect Young Children” based on the Catechism and teachings of the Catholic Church. These programs are well structured lesson based curriculum taught by the student’s classroom or Religious Education teacher and are NOT sex education. The lessons the children receive will be based on their age group. The date the training will take place in the school year will be communicated to parents in advance.
Parents must give permission for their children to participate in this training. As parents you are the primary educators of your children and it is up to you to decide whether and how your children should receive such sensitive information. Questions: Contact Sarah Rogers at 303-355-7361,
